Five Fast Tips For A Fantastic Website

While having an attractive website is important, you also need to be aware of other factors that will increase the performance of your website and maximise sales potential for your business. There are so many simple ways for you to get more hits on your website and increase your sales..............
  • First of all, it is important to remember that the loadtime for your website can dramatically affect sales. Slow loading websites can lead to lost business. Customers will be put off by having to wait for your page to show up and will move on before they even see your site. Cut your loadtime down by keeping the size of your site below 26kb. If you don't know what the size of your site is you can calcualte it by highlighting the HTML document, clicking on 'File' and 'Properties'. Your file size will be shown. Repeat the same step for each graphic you have on that page. Add each file together to get the size of your page. One of the easiest ways to reduce loading time is to shrink the images on your website.
TIP: Publicise automatically resizes overweight files. Although it may take a little longer to upload an image straight from your 8MP camera, the system will make it small for downloading if you don't know how to do it yourself.
  • A site with broken links looks unprofessional and many search engines and portals will not index your site if it contains missing images or broken links. You should regularly check your website to make sure every link is working properly and avoid lost business
  • Search engines do not index the images on your site, so it is a good idea to add ALT tags to your images. Doing this means that the search engines will recognise all of the content in your site. ALT tags with keywords will help you to achieve better search engine rankings.
  • When creating meta tags, don't resort to "keyword spamming" - i.e. repeating the same keyword several times. Search engines don't appreciate this! Use your keywords only once or twice.
  • Don't use commas when you sepatate keywords. Instead, separate them by using a space. In doing this, you allow the search engine to combine your keywords into phrases for people who use phrases when they search.
Following these guidelines will produce happier customers and a better website for your business.
